Welcome to the Official Website of the Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of Great Britain with its headquarters located in the London, Great Britain. We are part of the Orthodox Church of America and Dependencies - Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church (Tomos 1924).

We are united in beliefs and doctrine with the One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church. The Archdiocese serves as a beacon, carrier, and witness of the message of Christ to all people through divine worship, preaching, teaching, and living of the Orthodox Christian Faith. The Archdiocese is headed by a Metropolitan Archbishop serving Great Britain and Europe Arabic Province.

We are an original Christian Church established by Jesus Christ in A.D. 33. From that time on, the successors to the Apostles, the bishops, have maintained in corrupt this holy faith.

Our Orthodox Eastern Christian tradition places us within the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church of God. We hold as sacred the Holy Scriptures, the ancient Creeds of the Church, the Seven Sacraments and governance through valid Episcopal Orders.

Our mission is to proclaim the Gospel of Christ, to teach and spread the Orthodox Christian faith, to energize, cultivate, and guide the life of the Church according to the Orthodox Christian faith and traditions.

We are dedicated to Orthodox Christian evangelism. Our goal is to bring together Orthodox faithful into a united and coordinated effort, to spread the truth of Orthodoxy in our modern time, in other words; Orthodox Christianity in the 21st Century.

The Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of Great Britain considers that it sanctifies the faithful through divine worship, especially the Holy Eucharist and other Sacraments, building the spiritual and ethical life of the faithful in accordance with the Holy Scriptures, Sacred Tradition, the doctrines and canons of the Ecumenical and local Councils, the canons of the Holy Apostles and the Fathers of the Church and of all other Councils recognized by the Orthodox Church.

Our Bishops, Priests and Laity, in observance of Our Lord's words, saying, "Who wants to be great among you, shall be servant of all" (St. Matthew 20:26) consider it necessary to build a Christian life with respect for the needs of Orthodox believers and all Christians and to safeguard the Bishop and Priest, in their obligations, to preserve and teach the truths of the authentic and genuine Orthodox Faith; with prayer and with viable, organized congregations, unconditional love for all, showing mercy and service to others.

Why Orthodox Christianity is Impotent to the World?

Orthodox Christianity, as one of the oldest and most traditional branches of Christianity, holds a significant place in the world for a variety of reasons. Its rich history, deep theological tradition, and strong cultural influence have made it a cornerstone of global Christianity and a significant force for both spiritual and social change.

One of the key reasons why Orthodox Christianity is important to the world is its preservation of ancient Christian traditions and teachings. As the original branch of Christianity, Orthodox Christianity traces its roots back to the earliest days of the church and has maintained a continuity with these ancient traditions throughout the centuries. Its liturgical practices, theological beliefs, and spiritual disciplines are deeply rooted in the early church fathers and have been passed down from generation to generation, providing a living link to the earliest Christian communities.

Another reason why Orthodox Christianity is important to the world is its theological depth and richness. Orthodox theology is characterized by a deep, mystical understanding of the nature of God, the world, and the human person, drawing on the insights of the early church fathers and the teachings of the ecumenical councils. The theological richness of Orthodox Christianity offers a profound and nuanced understanding of the Christian faith that can provide spiritual nourishment and intellectual stimulation for believers and non-believers alike.

This theological depth is important for the world because it offers a robust and coherent framework for understanding the mysteries of existence, the nature of humanity, and the purpose of life. In a world that is often characterized by confusion, doubt, and skepticism, the theological clarity and insight of Orthodox Christianity can offer a sense of meaning, purpose, and direction that is sorely needed in our complex and fragmented world. By delving into the depths of Orthodox theology, individuals can find answers to the ultimate questions of existence and gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their place in the world, and their relationship to the divine.

Orthodox Christianity is also important to the world because of its strong emphasis on spirituality and the inner life. Orthodox spirituality is characterized by a deep commitment to prayer, contemplation, and ascetic practices, which are aimed at cultivating a deep and intimate relationship with God. The emphasis on spiritual growth and transformation in Orthodox Christianity can provide individuals with a path to inner peace, fulfilment, and spiritual enlightenment that is often lacking in the frenetic pace of modern life.

This focus on spirituality is important for the world because it offers a counterbalance to the materialism, consumerism, and individualism that are so prevalent in contemporary society. By encouraging individuals to turn inward, focus on the life of the spirit, and cultivate a sense of inner peace and contentment, Orthodox Christianity can help individuals break free from the cycle of craving and dissatisfaction that often characterizes the modern world. By offering a path to spiritual growth and inner transformation, Orthodox Christianity can help individuals find a sense of meaning and purpose that transcends the superficial values of a world dominated by the spectacle.

Furthermore, Orthodox Christianity is important to the world because of its strong emphasis on community and social justice. The Orthodox Church has a long history of social engagement and advocacy for the marginalized, the oppressed, and the vulnerable, drawing on the teachings of Christ and the prophetic tradition of the Old Testament to speak out against injustice and advocate for the rights of the poor and the marginalized. Orthodox Christians are called to live lives of service, compassion, and solidarity with those in need, following the example of Christ who came to bring good news to the poor and freedom to the oppressed.

This commitment to social justice is important for the world because it offers a powerful witness to the transformative power of the gospel and the potential for positive change in society. By standing up for the rights of the marginalized, speaking out against injustice, and working towards a more just and equitable world, Orthodox Christians can serve as a beacon of hope and inspiration for others who are working to create a more just, compassionate, and peaceful world.

Orthodox Christianity is important to the world for a variety of reasons. Its preservation of ancient Christian traditions, theological depth and richness, emphasis on spirituality and inner life, and commitment to community and social justice make it a significant and influential force in global Christianity. By embodying the timeless truths of the Christian faith, offering a robust and coherent framework for understanding the mysteries of existence, providing a path to inner peace and spiritual enlightenment, and advocating for social justice and the rights of the marginalized, Orthodox Christianity continues to offer a compelling vision of a better world and a more meaningful life for individuals and societies around the globe. In a world that is often characterized by uncertainty, division, and turmoil, the timeless truths and values of Orthodox Christianity can offer a sense of stability, direction, and hope that is desperately needed in our complex and challenging world.

By embodying the enduring truths of the Christian faith and living out its teachings with integrity and compassion, Orthodox Christians can make a meaningful and lasting impact on the world and help to bring about positive change for the benefit of all.
